Male City Guide

Discover the Beauty of Male City for Your Next Journey:

Because Male, the capital of the Maldives, is a crowded place, visitors frequently head straight to Hulhumale Island or other tourist attractions as soon as they land at Male’s International Airport. But if you stay for a while, you can explore Republic Square, the Friday Mosque, the local market, and other things.

You can stroll around historical locations such as the 17th-century Hukuru Miskiy, which represents Maldivian craftsmanship and architecture. Travelers are drawn to Male because of its residents’ vibrant traditions and strong sense of culture.

Islands in Male City

Male is the biggest and most populated city in the Maldives, which is made up of about 1200 islands. Vilingili, Hulhule and Hulhumale are a few of the nearby islands of Male.ย

Hulhule Island:

Hulhule Island is a relatively small island that is just a short distance from the capital city of Maldives. Imagine landing on this small island with soft, powdery sand and turquoise water all around you after taking off a plane. It provides you with an opportunity to quickly escape from your busy life and revive your mind after a hectic journey.

Vilingili Island:

Vilingili offers something for everyone, be it an underwater explorer, a beach bum, or a spa enthusiast. This island is not your typical gatewayโ€”it offers a serene setting, crystal-clear water, and an abundance of lush greenery that will make you feel more alive. Visit this island if you are near Male City; it offers a clean beach with a less crowded atmosphere.

Hulhumale Island:

Since Hulhumale Island is one of the nation’s artificial islands, it is very well-liked by visitors and parks. This modern island has wide roads, landscape parks, and carefully organized residential zones. Along with retail centers, dining establishments, and other companies, there are commercial zones.

Hulhumale Central Park, Hulhumale Beach, Hulhumale Mosque, and numerous other locations are there. If you are thinking about taking a trip to Male City, you simply must visit Hulhumale Island.

Things to do in Male City

Friday Mosque

As I have already mentioned, Hukuru Miskiy is another name for the Friday Mosque. This is the mosque that survived wars and disasters yet stands still as a symbol of continuity. Travelers love it for its rich history, elaborate woodwork, and beautiful stone architecture.

The history of the Friday Mosque is intertwined with that of the Maldives; it is a testament to the centuries-old customs and the impact of Islam. You should go check this place out; it will soothe your mind and might give you a quick escape from the bustling life.

Location: It is conveniently accessible for tourists to explore, as it is located in the center of Male City, close to the Male Friday Mosque road.

Sultan’s Park

Sultan’s Park costs about $5 to enter and is located close to the Friday Mosque. There are plenty of vibrant flowers, benches, and shaded walkways throughout the beautifully kept park. Furthermore, Itโ€™s a nice and calming place for an evening stroll. It was once the location of the Sultanโ€™s palace; now people from all around the world come to visit the place.

Location: It is located in the middle of the museum and Friday Mosque.

Victory Monument

Friday mosque, Sultan’s Park, and Victory Monument are all relatively close to one another; all it takes is a short stroll from Sultan’s Park to Victory Monument. The Victory Monument honors a crucial point in Maldives’ history. The country successfully repelled an attempted coup by a group of armed militants. Besides, It’s good for an evening walk, as itโ€™s in the heart of Male City.

Look Around the Local Market

The local market in Male City is always bustling with people. From bananas to handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs, you can find all of them in the local market. You should go visit it, even though it might be swarming with tourists, so you can learn more about Maldivian culture and see some unusual fruit varieties.ย

Location: 188 Ibrahim Hasan Didi Magu, Male 20188. There is also the fish market nearby; I recommend that you stop by there as well.

Republic Square

It is known as Jumhooree Maidan, a park that commemorates historical and political events in the Maldives. It is not just a location for public meetings; it also faces the Indian Ocean and is surrounded by several restaurants and retail shops.

Location: It is located on the north bank of Male.

Male Airport

Tourists can enter the Maldives primarily through Male Velana International Airport. It is situated to the north of Male Atoll on Hulhule Island. At the moment, it is the only airport operating International flights.
