Gulhi Island: Where Every Sunset Paints a Story

Gulhi Island is one of the most popular destinations in Maldives. Every one of us has experienced moments when we have wanted to take a vacation and head into the wild but with a hint of beach and tranquility. If this describes you and you are still stuck in your head, where would you go to get some fresh air? I can tell you about a place that will work like a magic wand to eliminate the tired feeling you are experiencing right now. This place is perfect for beach bums like you.

Gulhi is one of the most beautiful islands in the Maldives. It is small enough that you can spend an hour getting to know the island, but there are lots of fun things to do there, and I will give you all the details you need to know before you go.

How to go there:

The Maldives is an archipelago nation in the Indian Ocean, primarily consisting of the South Male Atoll, where Gulhi Island is situated. Gulhi Island is about 20 kilometers from Male International Airport.

You can arrange for a speedboat to transport you from the airport to Gulhi; the cost is approximately $20 for tourists and 100 rufiyaas for Maldivian nationals and those with work permits. Although there are slower ferries that go to Gulhi as well, I advise taking a speedboat for quicker travel.

Things to do in Gulhi Island

Explore Bikini Beach:

Gulhi Island is very small, as was previously mentioned. All the information you require can be obtained in approximately sixty minutes, and locating Gulhi Beach is not too difficult. The beach is also known as Bikini Beach.

You are free to use the beach’s sunbeds. It is one of the calmest beaches, with stunning views of the white sand beach and crystal-clear blue ocean. If you want to spend a whole day on Gulhi Island, there are a ton of things to do.

Enjoy Water Sports

Gulhi Island offers a variety of water sports, just like many other nearby islands. For example, surfing is a popular tourist activity, and it appears that Gulhi Island is a more beginner-friendly place to surf than other islands like Thulusdhoo, which have much bigger waves. Snorkeling is another enjoyable activity that you can do for only $20 per person. During a snorkeling excursion, you can see a variety of adorable marine life and coral reef fish.

There is some excellent scuba diving near Gulhi. It is thrilling to engage with marine life up close rather than just observe it from a distance. Scuba diving offers a feeling of adventure and discovery in addition to the beauty of the natural environment.

Visit Maafushi Island:

You should go to Maafushi Island if you have time to explore the area. Maafushi and Gulhi are around six kilometers apart. The fastest way to travel is by ferry, which takes approximately 20 minutes. Maafushi Island, also known as “Party Island,” is well-known for its stunning beach, turquoise waters, and abundance of marine life.

Tourists can relax beneath swaying palm trees, busk in the warm sun, or take leisurely walks along the shore. Maafushi Beach offers thrilling experiences for those looking for heart-pounding activities. Visitors can enjoy exhilarating moments in the water by partaking in jet skiing, windsurfing, and parasailing.

Watch The Sharks and Rays Come Up to Coast to Feed:

Fishermen catch their daily catch in this rocky area, throwing the remainder into the sea. Sharks and rays visit the sandy shoreline every evening to consume the trash. Visitors get a rare look at these amazing creatures’ natural behavior, making the experience both exhilarating and humbling.

Bioluminescent Plankton:

The beach is well known for its stunning sand and crystal-clear water, but what sets it apart as the perfect island is the bioluminescent plankton that grows naturally there. When disturbed, these microscopic organisms release light as a result of a chemical reaction inside their cells, which creates blue-green sparkles in the water when viewed at night. The plankton light up in response to the boat’s disturbance of the water. You should visit during the warmer months to fully enjoy the bioluminescent plankton.
